CPMatch and My New WIP

I recently participated in #CPMatch, a Twitter event that helps writers connect with critique partners. Check out Megan Lally’s blog for all the details. It’s a recurring event! Currently I’m revising KORE, a YA fantasy novel loosely based on the Greek myth of Persephone. For the event, I came up with a 140 character Twitter pitch:

A girl raised by monsters. A boy raised to kill them. Kore needs to trigger a school shooting. Attis needs to stop her. #CPMatch #YA #F CS

Twitter pitches are always a struggle for me. Check out this article for tips and suggestions on how to craft one. Especially for a project that’s just beginning to come together, condensing my characters, main conflict and stakes into a few short sentences was a helpful exercise.

I also created a book aesthetic for the event:

I found some great on-line resources about putting together these visual representations of the written word. I downloaded the free images from Pixabay, and used Canva to fit the images into a single jpeg file.

Coming right on the heels of the huge Twitter pitch event #PitchWars, CPMatch was a great way to jumpstart my revision work and meet other writers.
